14. Managing information
Accuracy and Confidentiality
- All Supported Lives staff must be aware of their responsibilities in relation to the accuracy and confidentiality of information (see recording policy). Any communication or recording must make clear who it is for, who it relates to, what circumstances are being reported, and what response is required.
- Information must be checked for accuracy and amended where necessary.
- Clients will be informed of the use to which personal information will be put in designing and delivering their care, and they will be asked to consent explicitly to this use.
- All staff must be aware of the need to keep personal information secure and confidential, and ensure that it is not shared with unauthorised persons.
Communication
Because the majority of staff work in isolation in the community, it is essential that there are clear information channels between staff. Community Support Workers are required to attend regular staff meetings and supervision sessions. Day-to-day contact with their office base will normally be by phone.
