13.11 Pets
- Daily care of pets (feeding, exercise or grooming) is not part of Supported Lives duties.
- If a pet poses a hazard to the Support Worker in carrying out their work, either by an aggressive approach or by potentially tripping them, they will ask the owner to ensure it is kept out of the room or otherwise under control while they complete the task. Special arrangements may need to be made between the Client and the Operational Manager if a pet is perceived to be a serious threat.
- Any injury caused by a pet must be reported and recorded as for any other incident.
- Staff who have an allergy to pet hair should inform their Team Leader so that their work allocation can be adjusted if necessary.
