A not-for-profit organisation providing high quality community support services to people with disabilities

13.7 Lone working

Staff are expected to take reasonable precautions for their own safety when working alone in the community, especially when out early or late, or in isolated areas. They must always ensure that someone knows where they are and when they are due to return, and that there is an agreed response if they fail to check in. Staff living alone should report to the on-call service on returning from an evening visit. Team Leaders will ensure that staff have alarms and/or mobile phones as appropriate and that these are checked regularly. The risk assessment for each home will highlight particular problems, such as poor outside lighting.
