• Independent Living Funds
  "The Independent Living Funds were set up as a national resource dedicated to the financial support of disabled people to enable them to choose to live in the community rather than in residential care."
• Direct Payments
  "Direct payments create more flexibility in the provision of social services. Giving money in place of social care services means people have greater choice and control over their lives, and are able to make their own decisions about how care is delivered."

Advocacy and support organisations

• The National Autistic Society
  "The National Autistic Society exists to champion the rights and interests of all people with autism and to ensure that they and their families receive quality services appropriate to their needs. This site includes information about autism and Asperger syndrome, and about support and services available in the UK."
• Sacar
  A charity dedicated to support people with Asperger Syndrome and Autism.(Sacar in the Sanskrit language means positive creation). Sacar was established in October 1999 in the Bradford area with a district wide remit due to increasing demands from parents and carers of people with Autism and Asperger Syndrome.
• The Downs Syndrome Association
  "We are the only organisation in this country focusing solely on all aspects of living successfully with Down\'s syndrome. We provide information and support for people with Down's syndrome, their families and carers, as well as being a resource for interested professionals. We strive to improve knowledge of the condition. We champion the rights of people with Down's syndrome."
• CHANGE
  "CHANGE is a national organisation run by disabled people; [it] fights for the rights of learning disabled people especially people with learning disabilities who are deaf or blind."
